Penguin scarf dance
What animals come to mind during winter? Penguins! That’s the inspiration for our activity! Our little ones held penguin cards and acted out the actions written on them. With scarves as their flippers, they waddled and danced along to cheerful Christmas tunes.
Penguin Cards
Did you know?
Penguins' waddling and flipper movements mimic a rhythmic dance, making them a favorite inspiration for music-themed activities!
Learning rhythm syllables with christmas elements
Through sketches and drawings of winter elements, the music explorers learned rhythm syllables (TA, TI-TI) using words like "snowman," "Christmas tree," and "Santa Claus." They then played musical instruments based on the number of syllables in each rhythm.
Of course, we couldn’t forget our Christmas tunes! The children practiced using resonator bells, handbells, and shakers as they learned to play "Jingle Bells." Check out the short video below featuring a performance by one of our talented music explorers!
Embracing Christmas with festive activities
The highlight of this Jingle Bells-themed activity was the use of desk bells! Students hopped through hoops like reindeer and played a phrase of Jingle Bells while singing the letters and solfege. Jingle Bells is always a favorite Christmas song among our students!

"Jingle bells, Jingle bells, Jingle all the way~"
Many Christmas songs, such as Jingle Bells and Silent Night, feature simple, repetitive melodies that are perfect for practicing solfege.

Using resonator bells and handbells marked with solfege syllables, our little ones brought festive melodies to life. Check out this delightful performance by one of our talented children!
